Gainesville Parks and Recreation’s most popular city park
Westside Park and Recreation Center is Gainesville Parks and Recreation’s most popular city park. The park and tennis center offers a multitude of facilities and programs. Known more formally as the Albert “Ray” Massey Westside Recreation Center, Westside was dedicated to the people of Gainesville FL in 1972.
Park amenities include:
- Three playgrounds
- 1.5 miles of shaded hiking trails
- Skate park
- Joyce Oransky Tennis Center (USTA)
- Basketball courts
- Baseball fields
The Joyce Oransky Tennis Center offers tennis lessons in the park throughout the year.
H. Spurgeon Cherry “Westside” Pool
The H. Spurgeon Cherry “Westside” Pool is adjacent to the park and recreation center. It features an Olympic size pool with lap lanes, splash pad, diving boards, dive tower, slide, and handicap accessible pool lift.
You can sign up for swim lessons which are offered April through October during the pool season. Water aerobics and Aquatic Leadership Camp are also offered here.
This park is one of the true gems of the City of Gainesville. You owe it to yourself to check it out!

Other Gainesville Parks and Recreation Pools
Gainesville Parks and Recreation also manages two other pools – the Mickle Pool in T. B. McPherson Park and Dwight H. Hunter “Northeast” Pool adjacent to the Martin Luther King Jr. Multipurpose Center. You can buy day passes for any of the three pools. If you plan to go more frequently, seasonal pool passes are also available and are good for use at all 3 pools.
